Was that the breaking point?
« on: February 03, 2010, 03:44:12 PM »

I was over at the official heroes.nbc.com messageboard, and there are alot of comments about how HRG's new flashback doesn't mesh with Company Man. I mean, I had to stop thinking about continuity once Hiro talked to kid Hiro in S2 at his mother's funeral, after he spent 1.5 seasons saying how he had to avoid meeting himself.
The only out is if it's a set of fake memories by HRG. But for those of you who care about continuity and longterm plot, did that fit the timeline at all?

From what I read, there are inconsistencies between Company man and the latest ep.

It is ridiculous that the writers can make these sort of mistake.

Surely they have a database or at least a card file with each character's details.
When & How Sandra & Noah met. When they got married etc

Noah definitely said last season that he and Sandra had been married 22 years in "Turn and Face the strange"
when Sandra asks him to sign the divorce papers. (This is Late 2007 in the Heroes time-line)
Based on that time-line they were married in 1985, 3 years before they meet in "The Wall"  Huh

I felt the same during these flashbacks as I did with the Coyote Sands flashbacks, none of these events were in the overall story arch when the series was conceived and were shoe horned into the story to satisfy a current plotline.
In the process the writers have contradicted their own mythologies and timelines for little or no gain.

Sure we have many writers contributing to the show but surely someone is responsible for the big picture.
Isn't there a person responsible for ensuring continuity?

Full disclosure...  I'm still a huge fan of the show, never miss an ep, podcasts etc...  And of thosedie-hards that are left I am probably average when it comes to the amount of criticism I voice or perhaps slightly more than average

But Noah and Sandra 22 years or not ranks about #50 on a list of 55 things I would want Tim Kring to work on....  Equal with small things such as where is Caitlin, thriw I. One line of dialogue and be done with it.

There are MUCH bigger issues for me, especially when we are talking about a character who has at least a partially arranged marriage, access to the Hatian, and presumably a Matt type who could implant 22 years in Sandra head.   Without going to read the thread linked above, I'm willing to bet that a good number of people are conveniently forgetting that HRG is the second most deceitful and conniving charachter on the show behind Angela.  22 years, 15 years......

Not worth my time.

Peter acting like a fool???  Now THERES something for the writers to work on.

That, and the fact that we don't know what year Heroes is in right now. Is it 2005, 2010, or further? Personally, the whole point of those flashbacks was to supposedly make Claire hate Bennet, and that didn't work. We should probably be taking this at face value rather than watching for the years to fit together.

That's the unfortunate part about Heroes. It was a series that started a bit like Lost, with an overall story line and small easter eggs to find, which allowed the hardcore fan to think about the characters and their powers. Jerry and Laura's discussions on the podcasts were fascinating in Season 1 and 2 as they were able to postulate about the powers. That's pretty much gone now. 2 seasons ago, I wrote a board message that was read on the cast saying that instead of looking back and finding where an episode fits, I now look forward to an ep as a fun entertaining piece of fluff, much like The Core, or the Day after Tomorrow. I was hoping the writers would really get their lore in order, but they've stayed at that B-movie level and have never left. It's still a fun, enjoyable show, but it's not the great TV it could have been.
